Biography
Dr. Kimberly Shaffer is an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator for the Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology (SEPP) program at Barry University. Since joining Barry University in 2017, she has been instrumental in developing one of the nation’s fastest-growing graduate programs in applied sport psychology, known for its strong student outcomes, innovative curriculum design, and high certification success rates.
A Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, Dr. Shaffer blends scientific rigor with practical application to prepare students for professional success in sport, exercise, and performance settings. She oversees all aspects of the SEPP graduate program; including recruitment, advising, curriculum design, and practicum coordination, while mentoring over 40 graduate students annually.
Dr. Shaffer’s teaching focuses on applied sport psychology, ethics, injury psychology, and research methods. Her work emphasizes learner-centered, evidence-based teaching strategies that foster community and engagement in both online and hybrid environments. Her scholarship explores the psychological components of athlete retirement, and transition into new career endeavors.
Committed to professional and community service, Dr. Shaffer collaborates with Barry Athletics to provide sport psychology support and mentors student consultants serving collegiate and youth athletes across South Florida. Her dedication to student success, applied learning, and advancing the field continues to shape the next generation of sport psychology professionals.
